Chevron Wall

We have this dining room. Well, had a dining room. One morning I couldn’t stand looking at our empty breakfast nook any more so I moved the dining room table into the kitchen and instantly felt satisfied. Until I looked back at the dining room. Big, open, empty, ugliness. The dogs loved it though. And so did gck-1. They could play and play and play without obstruction. But not me. I couldn’t stand it. I would dream about what I would use this big open area for. All my dreams came back to the same thing… sitting and reading. Nothing more. I just wanted to sit and read. But I didn’t want to spend a fortune on a new couch or chairs. So you know what the room was used for? For 2 of the worlds biggest ugliest dog crates.

Hi, welcome to my home… yes, yes, those are the worlds largest and ugliest dog crates but they do the job, now let’s hurry scurry to a different part of my house please!

After several nights of getting absolutely no sleep and being incredibly exhausted, B left for work and I re-arranged our house, again. The dog crates went into the office. The sofa was moved to where the loveseat was. The tv was shifted slightly to better the view from the sofa. And the loveseat…

Found its new home in my new sitting and reading area.

*LOVE*

I could now sit and read and watch all the odd goings on in the house.

But something inside of me wasn’t happy.

And then I saw this picture…

And then I knew that one of my walls was going to get a much needed and much deserved face lift.

I have a love hate relationship with all things chevron.

Some things I see I fall in love with. Others, to put it as nice as I can, look gawdy. But this wall. This magical wall. One of those things that I fell in love with :)

And the much needed much deserved face lift started.

the great debate… skinny or wide stripes?

skinny won. wide just didn’t have enough stripes. not enough of a “wow” factor to me.

my little painting buddy Crixus. this is about the time i realized all my measuring was off. and the perfectionist in me wanted to scream but the mom in me said to hold onto my britches and wait to see the end result.

I was done in less than a day. And found myself constantly staring at it, and loving it :)

This is where I start my mornings. Bible, ipad, prayer journal and with my little Crixie Rixie right where he is in this picture.

I thanked B for letting me just go crazy and try something completely bold and new. Love his response… “Life’s too short to care about paint.” :) Love him!

But now I have another problem. I have no idea what to put on the wall. I thought I had an idea but now I can’t picture it there so I’m waiting. Waiting for suggestions. Waiting for inspiration. Just waiting, but all while enjoying my newly face lifted wall and room. I also need help with picking out a rug. And pillows. And whether or not I should leave the side table all black or put something on top of each tier. Help?! Please?! I welcome any and every suggestion!

it’s amazing, stephanie!! wow. great job! and honestly, i think the wall itself can stand alone – it doesn’t need anything on it! :)

  3. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I love love love it and I ESPECIALLY love the green pops of color. What about your favorite verse painted in green to put on the wall, since it’s kind of your quiet time nook?

    You are talented, lady!

Wowsers! I am impressed. It’s awesome!

I like what you’ve done with the side table. I want to come help you pick out a rug! I’d do something colorful. Like the green blanket, it’ll totally pop against the grey.

lookin’ fab, Stephanie! It’s a statement but not an OVER statement–hard to do! Target is carrying a lot of chevron accessories (by designer Missoni) that you might add as an accent in an adjacent room.

  8. Hey! I have that dish you planted your succulents in! I’ve never even thought of using it that way! I’m all about succulents right now too (I’ve finally stopped fighting the desert) so I’m completely inspired! xo

  9. [...] updated the background of my prints to give them a little more mmph! with some inspiration from Stephanie’s newly painted wall! I am loving it, especially as I wish I could do this in my own [...]
