Finally Found It

There is a daycare that is literally right around the corner from our house… and when I say right around the corner, I mean like riiiiiiight around the corner from our house. If you stand on our front porch and look straight ahead, you can see the back of the daycare. That’s how close it is.

Well B, gck-1, and I went to check this daycare out yesterday morning.

B held gck-1 for a little bit and then she started to play with the other kids her age while I was shown around. Apparently, from what B says, gck-1 decided that she’s already head honcho there! A little girl came over to check her out and she pointed her finger at her and shook it a little bit while speaking her baby gibberish at her. Gck-1 has a big personality!

I believe that every daycare will have it’s “ups” and “downs”… and this one did as well. But in this case, the “downs”, aren’t really that much to worry about. Little things like I have to bring her own lunch every day and I have to bring a gallon of milk every month. Or how the front desk lady (who is also the owner) seemed a little out of it but I blame that on her just coming back from being out from surgery. Those “downs” are completely minor compared to where she is now. But the “ups”… much higher than where she is now. Music time with actual instruments every day. A playground that has grass instead of mulch on top of sand. (No sand worms!) The same teachers every day… no more musical chairs! And I don’t care what anyone says, first impressions are everything! The teachers here actually had energy and none of them were smokers. They actually seemed to like their jobs. And at nap time, they have “floaters” which are teachers that walk around and pat/rub the kids backs to help them fall asleep. Talk about a little pampering! They have a big painting of a bible in her room and big murals of animals singing “hallelu, hallelu, hallelujah” all over the walls. Big big big plus in my book.

We got the last open spot they had in the one year old room. Good thing we didn’t wait another day!

We’re be saving so much more gas as well. Where she is now is only 4 miles away but it’s 4 miles there, 4 miles back, 4 miles there and 4 miles back… that’s 16 miles every day. A weeks worth is 80, a month is 320, and a year is 3,840 extra miles put on the car. This new place is .47 miles away! That’s only 1.88 miles a day! A weeks worth is 9.4, a month is 28.8, a year is 345.6 extra miles put on the car. That’s a HUGE difference! The amount that we’ll be saving just in gas alone will completely cover the cost of her lunches that will need to be packed… plus more!

Another nice thing about this place is the amount of time that we will recover every day from not having to drive to go get her. Instead of leaving at 8:15 every morning, we will be able to leave at 8:40 and still get to work on time! And coming home at night we’ll get home at 5:20 instead of 6:00! That’s an extra hour and 5 minutes every day to spend together! So much more fun to be had together!

She doesn’t start until February 8th but that’s okay. My mind is at ease with our decision and she’s grown up to where she isn’t so afraid of new people or kids so it won’t be as hard to drop her off for the first time there than it was dropping her off for the first time where she is now. Who knows, she may not even cry at all this time!

That is wonderful. Our son is in a daycare just across from our neighborhood. We loved it, but we are moving him next month to be in a more curriculum based program to prepare him for school.

Hopefully this will be the last move we have to do for her because they have an amazing curriculum for when she’s a little older. I was blown away with how well put together this place is compared to where she is now. Have you already found a new one for him?
