Not Fair
3 days ago my throat started feeling scratchy…
then my ear started feeling a little clogged will some dull pain.
2 days ago i could barely swallow…
and my ear felt like it was draining something which I’m sure was not good looking…
and I had a white spot on my right tonsil. I haven’t had that since I was little but I knew what it was. strep. agh.
1 day ago I went to the doctor.
good thing: no ear infection, saved about $175 by having insurance, and got some aggressive antibiotics and steroids.
bad thing: strep and the horrible possible side effects from the aggressive antibiotics and steroids. I’ll only list a few because they’re the ones that suck to me the most:
restless sleep. agh.
increased appetite. agh. That means the weight I lost from not being able to eat is all going to come right back.
weight gain. probably from all the food I’m going to scarf down my throat.
loose stools. I kid you not. That’s the fancy way of saying diarrhea.
acne. I’m trying my best not to look like a teenager thank you very much.
Then there’s the normal ones you get with everything: dizziness, vomiting, fatigue, aches.
I took my first batch of meds last night and holy cow no joke they’re aggressive. Within a half hour of taking them, not only was I extremely tired but I started to break my fever. Hallelujah! After a little snuggling/passing out on B’s lap I decided to go sleep in a little more comfortable spot with the best cuddle bug Marlee to keep me sweating.
I hardly slept last night. I woke up every hour still sweating. Thankfully I put a large bottle of Gatorade next to the bed and a spare set of sweats to change into if mine got a little too gross and sweaty. Those were put on at 4:15 because the fever finally left me and I was now shivering from the most disgusting clothes that have ever been on my body. I hate “sweating it out.” I’ve never been able to do it because the thought and feeling of that much sweat makes me absolutely disgusted so I deal with my sickness for a little longer.
I woke up this morning fever free :) I still had a sore throat but the white spot was gone from my right tonsil and the left one barely had a white spot on it. The swelling in my ear had gone down almost completely because the swelling in my gland has also gone down almost completely. I didn’t have a single ache or pain in my body.
I took 2 hours off of work that I’m making up for tonight and it was the best 2 hours money could have ever bought! I’m just lucky that I didn’t try to self medicate for only an ear ache… that could have been way more costly than going to see the doctor!
I’m also starting to think that gck-1 should have to wear some sort of bubble when she goes to daycare cause I swear any time she gets sick… so do I. Agh.
So a mighty thank you goes out to Dr. Conrad for saving the day! I never thought a doctor’s visit could have such a wonderful outcome. :)

Oh no! I hope you feel better soon. Strep can be very draining.
I wake up feeling completely not rested but the days aren’t too bad… and then 7:30 comes around and I’m ready for bed! After a HUGE meal though of course ;)
