When it Rains… It Pours!
I set gck-1′s daycares ringer to be a cute upbeat version of “London Bridges” on my phone. Who knows why… it should be more gloomy and depressing because they never call for a good reason. ever.
I thought they were going to call me and tell me that gck-1 has a fever and she needs to come home, as this happens almost once a week I swear.
Instead, it was to let me know that gck-1 was walking and stopped and a little boy in her class (damien, how appropriate) did not notice that she had stopped and ran into her causing her not only to fall, but to hit her eye on the corner of the little kids table (rounded edges) and split her eyelid open and that I should probably come and check it out.
I pictured her eyelid split from top to bottom (vertically not horizontally) and a nice hole where you could now see her eyeball…
but instead I got this:

I really wish I knew how to take better pictures with my camera. The last one is probably the best but it’s not the best angle. When you look at her straight on, her left eye is swollen enough to make her eye look half it’s normal size.
I am a bad mom. You can say it, it’s ok, I’ll agree with you, just this once, here’s why:
Motherly instinct told me to go buy that bandaid glue stuff. It’s exactly what the Dr. would have done and I could save myself the trip to the ER (since it would be after 5 by the time we would get to her normal Dr’s office), the ER bill, the long wait at the ER, a cranky hungry baby, and a cranky hungry hubby who would still be at work since he didn’t come with me to get her at 3:30.
But I decided to let B take a look at it first before I made any decisions. After all, he did help produce this angel.
He told me she’d be fine if we just put some neosporin on it. I reminded him that she likes to rub her eyes when she’s tired and I’m pretty sure that if it recommends a Dr’s approval to use on a child undder the age of 2, it’s probably not suitable for her eyes. His answer… “I’ll watch her and make sure she doesn’t do it.”
I will be purchasing the gluey stuff to put on her eye tonight which will then make me a good mother. So no more calling me a bad mother ;)

Watch out for the glue stuff. We use it on our cuts (not bandaid brand but its called new skin) and it burns like the dickens! Be prepared for some major screaming.
we stayed away from the glue, thanks to you! her eye is already looking better, it hasn’t turned black and blue at all! thanks for the heads up!
