Smoothie a Day and a Sew-In…

It has recently been brought to my attention that there is something out there called a “Friday Night Sew -In.” Having never heard of it before, I had to google it. You know how me and google are… if you don’t, google and I are best friends. Heidi over at Handmade by Heidi hosts this wonderful idea. Here’s what you do, super easy, you just “Get your house settled, put on your comfy jammies.. maybe make a cup of tea.. and sit down to work on some of those projects (or anything else that you want to work on.. maybe you want to knit.. or catch up on scrapbooking).” Then you sign up to let everyone else know you’re participating. Then of course, you sew sew sew. Or scrap scrap scrap. Or knit knit knit! Take a couple pictures, put them on your blog or your flickr page and then you’re entered in a giveaway. I love this idea. I often find myself trying to set aside time to sew one night during the week but it always gets pushed to the next night because something pops up or I’m too tired. This is a great way to stay motivated and to sit down and just tackle whatever it is that you’ve been dying to get done but just haven’t made the time for. Another great motivational tool… they enter you in a giveaway that following Sunday. And we all know how crazy everyone is about giveaways! Especially with all the ones that just got over with!

Head on over and check it out… and if you’re feeling up to it, join in and sew with the rest of us tonight!

Now… on to my smoothie for the day. I really enjoyed it. It looked kinda like the ones that I used to get at Jamba Juice. I miss that place but definitely do not miss the prices! I can make almost a weeks worth of smoothies for their price of one which I like to think is quite a deal! And Tropical Smoothie Cafe… meh. Not really a fan either. It’s like their smoothies have to melt down a little before they actually taste flavorful. If you like them, continue liking them :) Don’t hate me for not liking them because after all, they did save me when my blender shattered!

This morning’s smoothie was made on a more simplistic thinking. I used 1 small banana, about 1 1/2 cups of frozen strawberries, about 3/4 cup sliced peaches, about 1/2 cup of vanilla yogurt, about 1/2 cup of apple juice, and about 3/4 cup of crushed ice.

The liquefy button on this blender is unbelievable! At first I thought it wasn’t powerful enough to handle the ice, even though on the box it said it could. You know how blenders are… they fib from time to time. It kinda makes this noise like it’s not working work, almost like it’s struggling to get the job done but let me tell you… It makes the most incredible smoothies. I have yet to find a lump of ice, even a super small one, in my smoothies. And you know what else it doesn’t do? It doesn’t shut off by itself after a random amount of blending like my Black & Decker one would. It would turn itself off and blink this little blue light at me. How annoying is that?!

I’m excited to try some new smoothies that have been suggested to me. I can’t wait to stock up on all these great new ingredients like Fuze and mangoes! Oh I can’t wait to try mangoes!

Oh and I got a nice surprise last night. B told me that he reads my blog. I don’t know why I would think that he wouldn’t, after all… he’s designing my new site so it would kinda be a little hard to not read what I write. He read the part about how he doesn’t like a particular brand of canned sliced pineapple because he thinks it tastes funny… and I have no problem with it so I just put them in our smoothies without him knowing. Well now he knows. We had a good laugh about it last night. I’m not changing my smoothie routine though. I’m on a roll and I’m in the groove.

Happy to hear the hubby reads your blog! Mine doesn’t! I just have to give him the quick version, but sometimes I get his advice before publishing something. This smoothie sounds so good, especially with the addition of the peaches. I bet Fuze would be delish in a smoothie too. Have fun tonight!

Just taking a little Sew-In break and cruising some of the other blogs. Smoothie a Day?? Sign me up!! Actually I almost always have a smoothie a day.
Pineapple?? Buy em for a great price at Costco, cut them up (we even leave the core in) and freeze em! Super convenient. Hubby doesn’t even cut them in small pieces he just breaks them when he wants to use them.

My morning smoothie – one banana (I prefer frozen but sometimes they are fresh), 1 T peanut butter, 1 cup soy milk, 1 scoop chocolate protein powder, ice. Mmmmmmmmm

My fave dinner time smoothie that dh makes – oranges, banana, frozen strawberries, frozen pineapple, cold water. No need for ice cuz you have the frozen fruit.

DH likes to make it with the frozen berry mix from Costco but I prefer the strawberries.

My afternoon pick-me-up smoothie – soooo refreshing; Orange, half apple, red grapes, kiwi, hand full of baby spinach, COLD water, some ice. A lovely GREEN. If you put strawberries in this you will have more of a khaki colored smoothie and it isn’t so appetizing looking. ;)
