Homemade Tortilla Chips
Week Two: Tortilla Chips
I had some leftover tortillas that were about to be thrown away when I decided to try something new with them.
They should be super easy to make but I tend to multi-task and forget that things are in the oven… leaving them less desirable to eat and more desirable to just toss out like I was originally going to do. But then again, I tried something new and that’s really all that matters.
Ingredients:
Tortillas
Olive oil
Sugar
Cinnamon
Salt
Garlic Powder
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Spread out your tortillas on a nice smooth surface.
Brush each one lightly with olive oil and cut into triangles with a pizza cutter. Arrange on baking sheets so that they are not overlapping.
Now the recipe that I went off of said to sprinkle each with a little salt… I found this to be an understatement. You need to cover those suckers with a nice layer of salt (if just salt is what you’re doing). If you’re going to be adventurous like I was and try to make some cinnamon sugar ones… load that sucker with sugar and cinnamon. And then I even tried some with garlic powder. Garlic salt would have worked better but we had none on hand so I got stuck with just the powder.
Plop those suckers in the oven and they’re done when “they’re roasted.” This does not mean start a new blog post and then go and check on them. They’ll be nice and roasted all right! And then you’ll have to toss them in the trash.
The next batch turned out a little better. They just weren’t roasted all the way so some had a slight tortilla texture still. Meh. Not bad for something that would have just ended in the trash. B liked the cinnamon sugar ones enough to eat them all so they served their purpose for the day.
But because I was such a failure with this… I’m making a different recipe tomorrow. S’more cookies and another recipe that I have yet to pull out of my book.
And don’t make fun of my pizza pan, I mean cookie sheet ;) We have yet to buy cookie sheets. One day, one day.

I’ve always wanted to make my own but never tried. Looks good and easy too.
