Your Garden Showcase, Terri

For those of you who are knew to this site, this past year, I took a giant step and planted my own garden. Since then, I have been drawn to learning the tricks of the gardening trade through others and not through google searches. Don’t get me wrong, I love google, but I’m pretty sure that google has never built it’s own garden. Am I right?! So I’ve become fascinated with real people’s gardens. How are they planted? Are they having the same problems as me? Have they figured out how to solve them? Are they as excited as I am to see everything bloom? What are they planting?

I have become so intrigued with just how your gardens are growing, that I will be sharing a garden a week right here with the rest of you. Because if any of you are like me and want to soak up as much gardening knowledge as you can, you’ll be just as curious to see how gardens across the globe are doing.

Terri, from Terri’s Notebook, has blessed us with her garden today. She is amazing. Her garden is amazing. Heck, her whole back yard is amazing!

She and her husband have realized that their back yard has just too much grass… so they’ve done the smart thing and planted plants and veggies and trees to cut down on all the time spent mowing which gives them more time to enjoy all their new beauties! Want to see?

Doesn’t it almost feel and look like a park? A place to sit here, a beautiful tree to shade us there… I love it! And that’s exactly the look and feel they wanted. A park feels natural because it is natural, and so does their yard. You might see a weed here or there or a slightly overgrown bush… like I said, natural! And they’re okay with that! Especially since one of the bushes is a raspberry bush! Now that’s a great problem to have!

She’s lucky I’m not her neighbor because if I was, I wouldn’t touch my yard and I’d always be in hers! I think I’m so drawn to her space because of all the different colors she has everywhere. Beautiful blooms everywhere! Oh how jealous I am and how I would love to make beautiful centerpieces with it all!

On to my favorites… things you can eat! Since Terri has no kids, the sand box that was left in their yard from the previous owners was turned into a raised bed! What a great idea! It kinda makes me want to go out and buy one just to turn it into a raised bed too! It’s filled with tomatoes, basil, cilantro and my personal fav… peppers :) Oh how I could eat up all of her peppers if she’d let me!

Doesn’t she have some awesome yard art? Terri and her husband used to be snow bunnies in Colorado and the art has since traveled with them and made themselves right at home in their yard. Sometimes yard art can be a little crazy and out there, not this art. It fits so perfectly! I love it. :)

And did you see her crab apple tree?! I wish I had a whole field of them in my back yard because they are so spectacular! The color that the tree adds is unbelievable. I think I might have used the word beautiful a couple times before but I just can’t help it! When in full bloom, this tree really is beautiful. I love the way nature can just move you on the inside and bring such a warm smile to your face.

How would you like to inherit some alliums? Do you know what those are? Don’t feel bad if you don’t… I’ve always wanted to know and Terri filled me in. They’re those gorgeous purple softball size flowers that you see in her yard. And thanks to google, I found out that they attract chipmunks. Hmm… I wonder if that’s why she’s having a problem with those little critters!

She’s put up a fence around her sandbox garden to keep out the critters which has so far seemed to work but those pesky rabbits! They don’t just like carrots, they love her hostas. I love hostas. I love to look at them. They love to eat them! Poor Terri. I hope they learn to leave them alone so she can enjoy them!

I can’t wait to see and hear about her garden. I love seeing others gardens and love learning about all the different growing seasons we all have. Do you share a passion for your garden like I do for mine and for others? Would you like to share it with me? With us? Just send me a comment or email and I would love to discover your garden! Happy gardening everyone!

  3. Wow, what a truly delightful garden and it feels wonderful to just be there in awe of the nature that it brings. Your garden is truly delightful, Terri. :) Thank you so much for sharing Stephanie. That is definitely a good way to connect nature with the readers, by bringing in an insight of an individuals garden.
