What Does Broccoli Look Like?
I always knew what it looked like when I would eat it but what does it look like before it gets to my plate? I have wondered this forever because unlike Martha Stewart, I have never grown broccoli. I was starting to get a little concerned that the plants that I bought were not broccoli like they said they were because all I saw were there long leaves growing… no stalky broccoli.
Had I paid a little more attention to my garden last night while I was watering it and re-planting a broccoli stalk that I had thrown over the fence because I thought it was a goner when it really wasn’t… I would have noticed that I actually have broccoli growing!
And this is what it looks like:
Isn’t it cute?! It’s about the size of a golfball and I really have no idea how I missed seeing it last night! Maybe I was a little more concerned with the mosquitos ;) But my garden is really starting to grow and it just amazes me that I did it all by myself.
Look at my tomato tree! It’s definitely not a bush… it’s past that stage. It’s higher than my chicken wire fence! And it easily has about 20 toms growing on it… maybe even more! My parsley is getting a little outta control too. We don’t really use it when we cook so I’m not sure what to do with it. Keep it? Pull it and plant something else? I don’t know. Anyone know how to dry it?
My carrots are also going crazy right now and I love it! I pulled one last week, it was tiny and off to the side… I just had to see what these things really look like from my own garden and not the supermarket. It was cute. It was tiny. There will be no more pulling until they’re ready. I don’t want to waste any of them on curiosity!
And just look at the leaves on my cuks! Have you tried making your own topsy turvy yet? I spray painted another jug and it’s waiting for me to add its tenant. I’m just not sure what I should put in it. I wonder if strawberries would do well. Hmmm…
And those would be the only potatoes that I have growing right now. They’re the only survivors from the cabbage worm infestation I had a little while back. I was actually surprised that any were still living but you know Mother Nature… always throwing curveballs!
Oh that? That didn’t grow in my garden although the colors match very well ;) B got me an ipod touch for Mother’s Day and I just so happened to spot these headphones at Target and had to snatch them up. They were the last pair and they were marked down from $69.99 to $17.48. I could not pass them up. I’m addicted to Roxy.

Paul knows how to dry herbs If you want I can find out how and email you. He dries herbs for his family and he uses herbs all the time.
Your garden looks amazing!!!! I love your topsy turvy idea…I wish you had shared that earlier. :0
I would not have guessed that about the brocolli either, but we have a friend who grows it. IT takes a lot of plants to make a few little brocolli trees doesn’t it?
Glad you had a nice Mother’s day!!
Woman! Yay for your gardening skills! I’m jealous.
Your garden looks wonderful. I really wish I had the time and patience not to kill everything I put into the ground.
I’m so glad you posted this because I’m always interested in seeing what other people’s veggie gardens look like! Our broccoli sprouts look pathetic compared to yours!! Hopefully we’ll get some stalks soon…my little one can’t wait to eat it!
Love your topsy-turvy idea!!! I have a friend who just bought a few and it would kill her to know you can actually make them yourselves! You could probably do strawberries in your homemade topsy turvy!
