My heart keeps breaking thinking about the oil that is inching closer and closer to the beautiful white sand here in Panama City Beach. I talked myself out of crying while I was taking pictures tonight. I figured that I should really try and focus on the one thing that is positive and that is: the oil still hasn’t reached the beach yet. The sand is still beautiful. The water is still clear, well, except for the little bit of algae that’s in it right now but that’s easily overlooked. Strange how it used to annoy me in the past and now I welcome it.
The sound of the waves are so relaxing. I love the waves here because they’re not really waves. The waves here are more like ripples. So peaceful. So calming. So beautiful. And I love the smell of the salt water. I love being able to open our front door and smell the salt water in the air. I wonder what the water will smell like when the oil gets here. I wonder how strongly we’ll be able to smell it. Am I going to need to stock up on air fresheners?
Panama City Beach has some of the most delightful sunsets. The clouds that came and went today almost completely disappeared by sunset. The ones that stuck around created a magnificent back drop to the setting sun and it was truly a wonderful thing to be able to see in person.
I am so blessed to be able to call this beach my home.
The oil is still not here. Yes, we may be in the direct path of it, but it hasn’t reached us yet. All the more reason to not take it for granted. I didn’t even brush off my feet when I got into my car to drive home!
I love you Panama City Beach. Thank you for yet another absolutely beautiful sunset and yet another gorgeous sunny day. You will soon be missed but never forgotten.

I keep praying for some miracle that will divert the oil away from your lovely beach . . . My heart breaks for the whole gulf region.
I love these moments you are preserving and sharing with those of us who don’t live near the beach. I saw on the news this morning that tar balls were washing up at Fort Walton Beach, which is where we went for vacation a couple years ago. Also seemed a little too close to your neighborhood!
That is truly a wonderful beach, and so glad that you are back and taking advantage of the beach by appreciating every little bit of detail as it is. :) Wonderful photographs, and so good to see your reply on my giveaway. Your warm thoughts connect deep to the heart. :) Look forward in speaking with you again.
I just returned this past Saturday from an incredible week’ s vacation in Panama City. Not a moment of my time there was without thought of what’s to come for this beautiful beach and like you, my heart aches just knowing how this incredible beach will change and be affected by this horrible event. I pray that the affects will be minimal and resolve will be quick.
