Shan Kishi
Sushi.
You either love it or you hate it.
It’s taken me about 5 years to fall in love with it.
Little story about Shan Kishi… the first time we ever went was Valentine’s Day last year. And I never wanted to go back, ever. It had just opened and everyone was giving it rave reviews. “Would you like some sushi with your sauce?” Way over sauced. I mean way way way over sauced. Again, never wanted to go back. Don’t know why I gave it a second chance but I am so happy I did!
Sometimes we hit up the “all you can eat sushi” at Shan Kishi for lunch. I’ve always looked forward to ordering the seaweed salad. There’s just something about an amazing seaweed salad. I let B have a couple bites. That’s right, just a couple. I get cravings for this stuff and I have no problems downing the whole plate. Plus, I don’t think B likes it as much as I do. More for me I guess ;)

Next came my “Dragon Roll.” Oh, another quick side note… it’s taken me 4.5 years to eat avocado on anything. Sushi was my first. I had to give in. There just weren’t enough options for me that didn’t come without avocado.

This roll, oh my gosh, I think it changed my life. It literally melted in my mouth. From what B told me, he’s never eaten eel raw. He thinks that they always have to cook it. I think that was the key here. It was still warm. The avocado was soft and creamy from the warmth.
It literally melted in my mouth.
I’ve never, ever, ever tasted sushi so delicious. The creaminess of the avocado paired with the warmth of the eel… hmmm :)

How cute is this roll?! It’s called a “Sweetheart Roll”. It always comes out in a heart shape. Adorable!

And then there’s the “Rock’n Roll”. This used to be my favorite. Last side note… this was the first roll I ever ordered from Shan Kishi. The one that had way way waaaay too much sauce.

Funny… you can barely even see the sauce now!
So are you a lover or a hater?

Oh, goodness. I love sushi and I’m right there with you about the seaweed salad. We end up having to order 2 of them because we both like it so much. I miss living in St Louis; good sushi was so easy to get there, not so much where we are now.
it’s one of those things i WANT to like. we don’t get to eat out often enough for me to “waste” a dinner on something i may not enjoy. but someday, i’ll be able to taste test and figure out what i like. it sounds wonderful though!
