Treasure Hunting
I wish we had more thrift stores around here. I don’t count any of the consignment shops because, well, almost all of them carry crap. Dirty crap. Dirty overpriced crap. We do have 2 Goodwills, one on the beach and one in town (both of which are horribly overpriced), and a Salvation Army but that’s about it. No good places to find any pyrex, or vintage sheets, or groovy hippie stuff. I still pop my head into the Goodwills every once and a while and I actually just went to the Salvation Army for the first time over the weekend. I’ve been trying to find an awesome chandelier to put some magic touches on and a computer chair for my office, but I just keep striking out. It wasn’t until my last stop that I actually found a lovely treasure.

The paint job is horrendous but meh, nothing a little spray paint can’t handle.

Ahhh… the sweet sweet transformation from a little spray paint.
The chair cost me $4.99 ($5.31 after tax) which wasn’t that bad of a price. I already had the spray paint on hand so it was a nice project to finish in less than 30 minutes.

The best part of the whole thing…
When I flipped the chair over to inspect the bottom…

I couldn’t believe my eyes! I actually scored an amazing vintage find!
Turns out my trips were done with some luck :)
and a quick p.s. after I clean up a few things and spray pain a couple more… I’ll be showing you the lovely place that I call my “crafty closet”! Stay tuned!

Love That! Can’t wait to see it in place!
I love this! Every Goodwill I drive by I want to stop in and see what I can find! My love for Goodwill finds goes back to High school when my grandmother took me to Goodwill (in Dothan, Alabama) much to her dimay but my isistence. :) We found a ton of vintage t shirts with great sayings. 70′s all the way. I’ve lost most of those shirts along the way sadly. I need to start making time to treasure hunt, we have lots ofplaces aorund here.
ooh! i love it!! what a transformation too with the turquoise paint. can’t wait to see it with the rest of the room. :) great job!!
Your chair turned out really nice! I love the color. I tend to do more thrift store shopping in the summer, simply because I have more time. I tend to agree that in general, Goodwill is terribly overpriced…yet the still manage to suck me in if I find something that I really want. Luckily, we also have a couple local only places that I occasionally find some good stuff at…but overall it takes lots of trips to find a few gems.
I wish our area had more thrift stores too! I see lots of people blog about the great vintage treasures they find, and I wonder where. We just have Goodwill and St. Vincent de Paul.
Love your chair makeover!
oh my! 1972 is vintage! who knew….I’m thinking what I have that I can sell now “as vintage” lol too cute!
