Vintage Sheet Love

Finding vintage sheets around here isn’t exactly easy… nor does it happen very often. It’s so rare that I dread even trying to go in search of them because I hate being let down. I get such high hopes and then I get sad and get mad because I just wasted a bunch of gas for nothing.

Something magical happened this last trip though. Magical enough that I’m almost… almost not wanting to ever look for another. (but who am I kidding?! we’re talking about vintage sheets here people!)

I found this absolutely gorgeous sheet…

in king size! *gasp*

I’ve seen several different sheets in twin or full, haven’t seen a queen yet and this was my first king size find.

I immediately took it home, washed it and placed it ever so happily on our bed. And then I laid on top of it for a couple minutes in awe. After those couple minutes, it was folded nicely and placed in the linen closet. I was afraid one of the dogs might try to lay on it too and mess it up somehow.

It’s one of my favorite prints and I’m not sure what I want to do with it yet. No stains. No rips. A perfect king size sheet. It doesn’t go with the colors in our room so what do I do? Do I repaint our room? ;) Do I make fat quarters out of it? Do I make several totes out of it? Do I attempt to make a quilt with it? What would do?

That is an awesome find! I would use it anyway, even if it doesn’t match. I’ve given up trying to match things too much, especially where no one will see it. Plus, my husband won’t “let” me repaint the bedroom to a more neutral color…

ooh, i LOVE that print! i’ve seen it before, too, but never in a king! what a find! and who cares if it doesn’t match your walls? :) i love mismatched sheets on my beds! it’s always a wonderful surprise when you turn down the comforter to discover happily colored vintagey goodness hiding underneath. :)

Lucky you! I’ve never found a king size vintage sheet before. Several queens and lots of twins, but never a king. I say, since it is a king and fits your bed, use it as a quilt backing. I use sheets as backing fabrics for my quilts and I love it. It’s pre-measured to just the right size so there’s no piecing involved, the fabric for most of the vintage sheets I’ve found is still a little bit heavier and more durable than backing fabrics sold in fabric shops, and I think it’s just so much fun to turn over a corner and find a really neat pattern on the back.
