Friday Night Sew-In Update
I promised pictures of my finished product from last night so now you can see just what I was working on. I know it’s late, and I apologize. But I got carried away in my garden and oh boy did time ever fly! Enough of my garden, for now ;) Here’s my 17 inch laptop case that I finished:
I know I know… what the heck is up with the horrible binding?! I’ve never used binding before. I was going to make it myself and then sew it on but who am I kidding?! If I’ve never used it, there’s no way I’d sew it from scratch from the get-go either! I don’t even know how to use it correctly. The laptop cases’ design came from the book “One Yard Wonders.” It called for me to put the binding on it bit I didn’t really know how and the directions weren’t that great so I just had to guess and wing it. Anyone up for teaching me? Please? I also didn’t have any velcro other than a couple little circles so I just made do with them. The flap is also not centered. It would have been had I not made double the amount of casing that I should have but trial and error will help me learn! And good thing it’s not a super close up shot so you can’t see how horrible my 2-inch spacing is between the “quilting” that I did over the entire thing. After a while I didn’t really care so I just kept going untiL I was done. But ya know what? I’m absolutely beaming with what I accomplished.
And I’m so happy that I joined in on the Friday Night Sew-In with Heidi. :) You will definitely be seeing more sewing from this girl, especially on Friday nights.
B’s ribs didn’t turn out as he had hoped. They tasted more like ham than ribs. You know what that means?
It means that I had a whole rack of ribs to myself :) Which also means that I’ll be eating ribs for the next couple days. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is something I am very happy about.
I’m also happy to be able to say that I have juiced my first orange… ever. I bought one of those little juicer thingee that you twist half an orange on. I don’t know their correct name. Do you? FIll me in please. The more I learn the better.
Juicing is hard. At least it was this way. Those three oranges only got me about 3/4 a cup of orange juice. As depressing as that may sound, the taste from that 3/4 a cup of orange juice explodes with more flavor than the other whole gallon of orange juice we have in the fridge. It is unbelievably sweet and I just take a sip or two at a time to make it last as long as I can.
Who is the laziest dog in the world? Marlee of course! We went back and forth and back and forth here and there and back again from the flower garden to the real garden… over and over again… and the walking and the humidity really wore her out. She better get a good night’s sleep ’cause it’s about to happen all over again tomorrow! A quick recap from today: I planted 12 yellow onion plants, 10 strawberry plants, 1 blueberry plant, 5 red potato plants, re-planted the marigolds, re-planted some Celosia’s and planted some new ones as well…. hmm… and then we bought $20 worth of plants and mulch from Lowes which equals about 18 plants and 1 bag of mulch. At least I think I got that many… I could be off by a little bit. I could have gotten more ;) Some were only $.25 and some were $.77. Lowes doesn’t believe in watering their plants so they always mark them way down about this same time every year. I’ll be waking up around 5:30 am to plant them! I’m so excited. I also made 4 more topsy turvys :) I made them for someones birthday coming up. What a great gift idea!
And now some remaining Papa John’s is calling my name and I cannot resist!
Sleep tight everyone!

Great idea to make a laptop case……
HI!!
I am happy to tell you that Grommets are a LOT easier than they look. I got mine at a local hardware store in a kit that included the tools you need. It is MUCH cheaper than at the craft stores!!
I am also happy to inform you that:
YOU are my winner at Pitterpat and the Stickycat!!!!! YeaaaWhooohooo:)
Congratulations! Email your addy when you get a sec. and I’ll get the prize package on its way!
Happy Weekend,
Denise
Any idea what fabric that is you used for the outside of the case? It’s super pretty.
It looks great! I am jealous of all your planting!
Love the laptop case–I want to make one myself, just haven’t. I hate binding, too–makes me CRAZY.
The garden sounds like it is coming along well. Ours got washed away in some torrential rain we had. All are saddened. But I’m thinking if we try your topsy turvy way we may actually grow something! Now to fill them full of juice…..
What a truly beautiful laptop case! I love what you have done with it, and am happy that you feel you have accomplished something, as you definetly have even if it may not be perfect! :) Those ribs look good, and glad to see you enjoying them. Are there still any leftovers?
Well done on juicing your first oranges, you did good! I’m not sure what it’s called neither. I just call it a juicer too, and again I have a 1970′s plain old green one and it actually works quite well, once you start squeezing down the orange all the way round the tip of the circle. Two oranges and you get a good full half glass. It helps that if you get the cover you can squeeze down more juice out of the orange. I think the trick is to just squeeze it all down, in all of the orange. Great little tool! :)
Marlee looks so beautiful lying there, lazily and very happily. :)
