I Made a Ruffle Pillow

My first time making ruffles and I’m actually rather proud of myself! I have had my eye on this ruffle pillow tutorial over at Floral Showers and I finally had the time to make it.
I cleaned out my closet and found the most perfect shirt to use. It was way too big for me to ever wear comfortably but I really couldn’t force myself to ever throw it out so this tutorial was the absolute perfect way to be able to hold on to this shirt forever!

I’m really really bad with the whole hand sewing a pillow shut so the pillow isn’t quite finished. I’m going to finish it by hand sewing all around the entire thing that way it gives it a more old school look and covers my horrible inability to hand sew a pillow shut ;)
Anyone want to teach my how? Or know a good tutorial/video that shows you how? I just can’t stand the way pillows look when they’re hand sewn but haven’t been able to figure on my own how not to make it look bad!

Either way… the ruffles… I’m in love with. I want to make a gazillion more pillows just because of the ruffles. They were tedious and time consuming but they got easier and quicker with time. Kinda makes me want to go through all my t-shirts and make pillows of out them!
And I love that this pillow is 2 sided. Feeling spunky? Ruffles. Feeling relaxed? Peace sign. Thanks again Floral Showers for the tutorial!

Love your ruffles! What a fabulous pillow. This is a great idea for reusing a tshirt that you still like but don’t wear anymore. For the hand sewing, do you typically do a whipstitch to close that hole? I usually do the same stitch as for attaching binding to the back of a quilt. Stop by tomorrow morning and I’ll show you how I do it – LOL!

Well I think you did a great job. So much better than I could do. I am just a beginner at sewing, but so far I am really enjoying it. Oh and I love the tied dye pillow. A friend of mine lost both her daughters in an auto accident, and their memorial theme is tie dye. So when ever I see a beautiful tied dyed piece like that, I remember my sweet friend and her beautiful daughters.
