Bump-It’s

Everyone has seen those absolutely ridiculous commercials for bump-its right? Right. And everyone, including me, has vowed to never buy such a ridiculous product right? Um… well, can I plead the fifth? And hide in a corner? No?! Well then I guess I’ll just have to share my personal experience with them.

Let’s go to August, 2009. This is probably right around the time that I figured out just exactly what I wanted my hair to look like for my wedding. Because we were having a beach wedding, I knew that wearing my hair down wasn’t really an option. Any other day of the year yes, it’d be fine but not on the most romantic day of my life. So I decided the best and most flattering way to wear my hair would be in a low ponytail, a nice little bump in the back, and the ends would be curled and look fantastic.

Like this, white headband and all, but with a ponytail like this:

B wanted me to wear my hair in curls but he just doesn’t understand that trying to style hair in Florida, and for it to stay styled, is a lost cause. I had even tried a couple days to wear it all nice and curled and glamorous… and by the end of the day, I looked like I was out drinking all day and and it just wasn’t pretty.

You would think that I would have learned from the curls and that I should do several run throughs of my low bump side pony. You would think…

I bought a white headband and the bump-its the day before the wedding. The headband I nixed right away after I put it on because I’m weird with headbands. Sometimes they have this little gap between my head and the headband and it drives me absolutely crazy to see this. No biggie, the hair would still look amazing without a headband.

You would think that I would at least try the bump-its the night before the wedding. You would think…

With 20 minutes before I was to walk down the aisle, I tried to put the bump-it in my hair. I had no one to help me. My mom and sister were getting ready downstairs. My sister in law was heading back from taking pictures of people at the beach. I was alone, with a bump-it, a can of hairspray, and a curling iron.

And then, I was in tears.

This little piece of poo was impossible to position and hide in my hair. I mean impossible. I tried and tried and tried to get it to stay in the right place. And I freaked out. And cried some more.

3 minutes before I was going to make my big debut, I heard a knock on the door… and my sister in law popped her head in to check on me.

Remember Rudolph nose? Well I had given up on piece of poo bump-it to try and hide Rudolph Nose. My sister in law put some finishing touches on my curls and then we tied ribbon that had a small starfish hot glued to it around the ponytail holder and gave it one last spray of hair spray and off I went.

You know where that damn bump-it is now? Neither do I! ;) I think it’s somewhere in my crafty closet. Maybe I should add it to the giveaway that’s coming up. Oh no I couldn’t do that. But I am completely willing to give it away to anyone who wants it. Ask and you shall receive! I’m serious. Someone please take it off my hands!

Anyway… that’s that. Bump-it and me, we just weren’t meant to be. Good thing my hair wasn’t a complete failure!

(p.s. that’s my older brother marrying us. love you!)

I totally want a bump-it. And all the other cool stuff I see on TV! I asked for a topsy turvy for Mother’s Day!

It looked really pretty without the bumpit. My daughter and another little girl were supposed to wear them for my cousins wedding. My daughters did work out since her hair was so thin and could not be teased to properly cover the damn thing.

I never fall for the tv stuff. Except for the steam mop. :0
I think your hair looked amazing. I LOOOOOOOVVVVEEEE the starfish. So clever!!!

  4. Cathy says:

Your hair looks great! I can’t believe you waited until right before the wedding to try the bump it! Oh well…it all worked out!

  5. Melanie says:

Yeah, bump-its are a joke. I’m glad you worked it all out and it looks fantastic.

  6. My 8-year old HATES these! She says, “Mama, I just don’t understand them! That commercial is ridiculous!” So for every holiday, etc. I always tease her that she’s getting a bump-it.. Bahahaha!!

  7. Angela says:

LOL – I bought the bumpit at Claires last year. I can get it to look cute in my daughter’s hair, but it never seems to come out right in mine. I can always see the claws/grip thingys. The IDEA is cute- just not as easy as the commercial!

I’m sorry you had such a hard time with it- especially on your wedding day!
