Thunder Beach

Thunder Beach: The Most Biker Friendly Free Rally in the US is upon us.

A lot of locals hate it. I will agree that I don’t like how much longer it takes me to get from point A to point B when they’re here. But that happens when the spring breakers are here too so I’ve gotten use to it. You just leave a little earlier. No Big Deal. I will agree that I do not like how much trash they leave behind. But it’s much less than the spring breakers. I will agree that I don’t like their potty mouths. Again, much less than a bratty college kid. I will agree that I almost pee my pants when I see them in my rear view weaving in and out of traffic and I feel like I could squash them. But they’re harmless.

I actually find myself rolling down the windows in the car to listen to their loud rumbles as they pass me by. That’s a trait I inherited from my dad. He used to ride a motorcycle. In fact, if I’m not mistaken, he rode it cross country one time! He’d always roll down the window when he heard a Harley comin’ by. It always made me smile. :) He had such a love for those things.

So I’ll be seeing lots and lots of these over the next few days, and hearing them even more!

Sad thing about this not even a week long event…

We always experience this:

Every year at least one biker passes away while attending this event. This particular incident was not the bikers fault. It was a drunk driver who flew through the intersection and blasted this innocent biker.

Please remember to always watch for bikers. And bikers, please remember to never drink and ride. Life is too precious!

The crashes are bad on a bike. And so many of them don’t wear helmets anymore….that really gets to me.
I am almost the opposite of you, I loathe the loud noise. I have sensitive ears. :)
My FIL and his wife ride big loud bikes…Uggghhhhh!

    Hi!
Thanks for visiting my blog and for the compliment on my photos! I’m new at both blogging and photography, so I really appreciate the encouragement. Panama City Beach is one of our favorite places to vacation! I’m going to poke around your blog for a while now…nice meeting you!

That is one of the things I really miss about Florida (we lived in Sanford – close to Daytona). We were also riders. One of the main reason for having the bikes be so loud is so distracted drivers in cars will pay attention that you are next to them.

The accidents are very unfortuante, but a know risk when getting on a bike.
